MARIEJON DE JONG-BUIJS

Mariejon de Jong-Buijs is a Dutch artist currently based in New Jersey, USA. She focusses on monumental paintings, folds and unfolds the fabric as she paints fields of color. The expanded works are gigantic structures to capture the vast wealth of impressions. Fragments of transportable time and place; a time capsule with pieces of her life.

Mariejon graduated in 1994 with a BA in art teaching in The Netherlands. In 2015 she graduated with a MFA at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Basel, Northwestern of Switzerland. In 2019 she participated in the Immigrant Artist Program at the New York Foundation for the Arts. Her project iExist, a forthcoming artist book and exhibition, is accepted in the Fiscal Sponsorship Program at the New York Foundation for the Arts in New York.

Mariejon de Jong-Buijs’ work has been shown internationally, including at De Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland (2015), Städtische Galerie Stapflehus, Germany (2016), FABRIKculture Hégenheim, France (2017), Fort Sabina Henrica, Heijningen, The Netherlands (2018), Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton NJ, USA (2018), Index Art Center Newark NJ, USA (INDEX, 2019), Guest Artist at The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, New York City NY, USA (Open Doors Open Studios, 2019), Brick + Mortar Gallery, Easton PA (Vast Expanses, with Katrina Bello, 2019), De Steenfabriek, Gilze, The Netherlands (STOOK, feel the need, 2019).
