Equine Encounters

Sometimes the past is present. Horses played a significant role in my life. They were a bridge to my Dad. We bonded over our love for an ex-race horse, Dusty Dan.

Fast forward. A recent trip to a Standardbred breeding farm and a pasture of scattered blooms of mare and foal greets my eye. A few connect with me.
Situated on a Venetian plaster covered board, I draw them
with graphite. The image a result of a duet between textured plaster and graphite mark.

Sizes range from 4x6 ft. and 16x20 inches.

2018 ARTWORK:

My art is like a house with many rooms. There are places for drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. I like to feel I can visit these rooms freely as necessity or whim dictates. I work with representation and abstraction. This tendency toward inclusiveness invites an eclectic mix. Sheep graze in one area backed by a flotilla of wall hung wood kayak shapes. From these forms emerge wiggling wires topped with colorful ovals, which have a tendency to bounce in the breeze.
My work asks the question, what would happen if a book was unbound and set free to flow down the wall like a cataract?

Come and see.
